The Makin Memories Foundation was set up in memory of Tom Makin. When Tom found out he was terminally ill, he wanted to try and leave something for his two young girls to keep after he passed away. He found these lovely boxes for the girls to keep memories in of their Daddy. We found that it was hard to find the time to dedicate to doing this with the day to day pressures of caring for someone who is terminally ill. Some of Tom’s family members helped organise things that Tom wanted to leave for the girls. These included birthday and Christmas cards, jewellery and memory bears. In doing so, the girls now have some special items that they cherish and look at regularly to remember their Daddy. We appreciate that not everyone has this level of support and wanted to create a service to help provide this to those who need it. These items have really been a lifeline and comfort to them since Tom passed away. Tom received the most outstanding care from Springhill Hospice in his final few weeks of life, and Tom’s family want to repay their gratitude by helping other patients being treated in their care.
The Makin Memories Foundation is a service we offer for terminally ill patients being cared for by Springhill Hospice with young families up to the age of 18. We pay for and organise those important memories you would like to leave your loved ones.
We also understand that in some circumstances it is not possible to organise things before you or your loved ones passing. We can still be on hand to arrange for memory boxes, supportive books for children amongst other things.
If you think this service may be of interest to you please speak to your contact at the hospice who will refer you to us .
Your contact at the hospice will notify us that you are interested in the service. We are happy to come and visit you to discuss the options and show you some samples of what we can offer.
